What we cover
GCSE English Language
Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing — Question 5 creative writing, reading comprehension, language analysis. Paper 2: Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives — non-fiction reading, comparison, transactional writing. We cover all assessment objectives (AO1–AO6) and teach the specific question structures that examiners reward.
GCSE English Literature
Shakespeare: Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, and Julius Caesar — our Head Tutor has taught all four AQA texts. 19th-century novel, modern prose and drama, the AQA poetry anthology, and unseen poetry. We target AO1 (informed personal response), AO2 (language and structure analysis), and AO3 (context).
How we work with GCSE students
Diagnostic assessment
Session one identifies exactly where your child is. A writing task, a comprehension exercise, and a brief conversation — by the end, we know the specific gaps and can build the plan.
Personalised learning plan
A written plan shared with you within a week of the diagnostic. It maps the target grade, the specific skills we will work on, the exam timeline, and the milestones along the way.
Half-termly progress reports
Every half-term, you receive a written report showing what is improving, what is next, and where the gaps still are. No surprises. No guesswork.

What an online session looks like
Sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet — whichever you prefer. Your child and their tutor work on a shared document so everything is annotated live, visible to both, and saved for revision. Sessions can be recorded with parent consent. Homework is set weekly and feedback is given before the next session. After every session, parents receive a brief written summary of what was covered and what to focus on before the next one.
What parents say
"Jack was absolutely brilliant with my son. He went from dreading English to actually asking to do extra reading. The exam results spoke for themselves."
"What stood out was the personalised plan from session one. My daughter went from a Grade 4 to a Grade 7. Worth every penny."
